What is PE 100 pipe?

Polyethylene pipe with an ISO4427-required Minimum Required Strength (MRS) of 100 at 50 years and 20 degrees Celsius is known as PE 100 pipe. Pipe-grade polyethylene, also known as PE 100 pipe, is the most used type worldwide. The only difference was in the density and concentration of the polyethylene. Because of technological advancements and stricter regulations, only the Polymers pe 100 grade is still manufactured; all other grades have been phased out. There are several different grades of polyethylene, but PE 100 is the most cost-effective option because it is both lightweight and strong.

Various benefits

Some advantages of PE 100  are listed below:

  • Increased efficiency, greater productivity, and lower production costs
  • ISO 13469 allows for more wiggle room when winding, maintaining, and installing pipes.
  • High product safety and resistance to slow crack growth (SCG test)
  • Great durability against crack propagation (RCP test, with ISO13469, V. 1996).
  • When compared to PE 80, PE 100 has higher hydrostatic resistance (tested based on ISO 1167 standard)

Improved processability

This phenomenon originates from the PE 100 manufacturing process, resulting in a bimodal molecular weight dispersion in the polymers. Actually, with such a distribution, the materials could be processed more quickly because of their low molecular weights, the engineering properties of the final product could be guaranteed thanks to the presence of high molecular weights, and one would be provided with any of desired physical, mechanical properties in addition to easy production conditions. In addition, the HDPE PE 100 Price is climbing steadily due to the soaring demand for recycled HDPE. The price of PE 100  is between 0.40-21.80 $ per meter.

Increased adaptability of PE 100 pipe

Because of PE 100  superior engineering qualities, thinner pipes may be made at the same working pressure. Without sacrificing mechanical properties, leading to a more consistent end product across the pipe’s thickness.

Superior toughness against the gradual spread of cracks

Since minor cracks during installation or shipping of the pipes are inevitable, their long-term performance is technically evaluated based on their resistance against slow crack propagation. As the temperature of the fracture mechanism is transmitted to higher temperatures, new PE 100 versions are expected to provide a greater range of allowable pipe operating temperatures.

Strong resistance to the quick spread of cracks (RCP)

Rapid fracture propagation (at around 200-400 meters per second) is both plausible and inevitable under the internal pressure of the pipes and the potential energy stored inside. We know that RCP fracture is affected by pipe diameter, wall thickness, internal temperature, and pressure; thus, identifying these effective parameters is crucial for dealing with this problem. As the pipe’s mechanical behavior deteriorates with increasing wall thickness in a given pipe size (at a given application temperature), it has become common practice to use PE 100 materials, which allow for thinner walls while still retaining engineering qualities.

High resistance to hydrostatic pressure

The hydrostatic pressure resistance of a pressurized pipe is the most crucial attribute, as it measures the pipe’s durability under internal pressure. Hydrostatic testing confirmed the PE 100  good quality and fantastic endurance.
